A B O U T
I’m Bex, a Bristol based artist, illustrator and mural painter, working in digital and physical mediums, creating whimsical, nature inspired artwork.
My stylised creatures, characters and landmarks, portrayed within lyrical and atmospheric scenes, have been commissioned for art projects by commercial and private clients, including: publishers, advertising agencies, schools, visitor centres, theatres, cafés, local councils and public spaces. I love working across a range of mediums and platforms from painting large wildlife murals and animal characters to working on illustrations for printed and digital content, books, animations, products and more.
Work with me:
-
I am an experienced mural painter creating artwork both indoors and outdoors for private and commercial clients including schools, hospitals, theatres, local councils, cafés, shops, galleries and other public spaces. I hand paints many of my murals but can also create digital artwork for projects that require printed graphics.
I have also ‘painted live' at art events including festivals, in shop windows and have even painted as part of a BBC Children's TV show. I have painted murals in a number of public spaces including Bristol Old Vic Theatre and the renowned 'Six Sisters' row of all-female painted shop fronts on North Street in Bristol.
-
I am a freelance commercial illustrator and have created illustrations for clients including publishers, museums, local councils and design agencies for use in magazines, animations, printed and online communications, packaging, merchandise and more.
My whimsical characters and creatures, portrayed in atmospheric scenes and landscapes are created using a combination of hand rendered techniques including spray paint, acrylic and paint pens, with final digital illustrations composed primarily in Photoshop.
As a graphic designer, I also have a broad range of experience in creating digital artwork for large format printing, including digital murals and artwork for exhibitions and visitor centres.
If you have a project that requires a mix of art and design skills, or even a mix of digital and hand painted work, do get in touch.
-
If you are looking for a bespoke piece of art, I have painted many commissioned pieces for private clients as well as artworks for commercial clients such as offices, bars and restaurants.
You can see some examples of my paintings here.

Bex's distinctive and lyrical style of artwork combines soft, spray painted textures, organic shapes, areas of flat colour and sharp, flowing lines and is influenced by graffiti, a childhood lived in the countryside, animated films and illustrated books. She works in both digital and traditional mediums and likes to include her own hand painted textures and backgrounds within in digital work.
Her paintings and personal artwork focus predominately on nature - exploring the delicate connections and interactions within our ever-changing natural world, depicting a fusion of land and water, where rural and urban landscapes merge and wildlife adapts to a shifting, fluid terrain. Bex is known for her large wildlife murals and animal characters, with British wildlife a regular feature, including her iconic foxes, who can be found painted on numerous streets around the UK.
Bex is also a graphic designer (and founder of design practice Severn Studios), with over 20 years experience of working with clients on commercial projects both large and small. Her unique combination of artistic and design skills have culminated in many exciting creative projects, collaborations and opportunities.
She lives and works in Bristol, a city whose energy and street art culture have played a key role in influencing the direction of Bex’s work.
